EP 087: Escaping the Alcohol Trap & Embracing Sober Living with Janey Lee Grace

Thursday Jul 11, 2024
I met Janey through our mutual friends, and I have enjoyed getting to know her and learn about her eclectic career, which now has a big focus on alcohol-free living. Janey is so passionate about this topic, especially because she approaches it from the perspective of “grey area drinking”, that I think many of us can relate to.
Janey Lee Grace is a life coach trained in NLP, EFT, Matrix and Family Constellations therapy, plus sobriety and health coaching. She runs a community called The Sober Club and offers 1-1 coaching and group sessions. Formerly she was a broadcaster best known as a co-host on Steve Wright in the Afternoon on BBC Radio 2. She is the author of five books on holistic living including two number-one Amazon best sellers. Janey has a BA Hons degree in Performance Arts, was a backing singer with WHAM! and had a Top Ten hit with Cola Boy in 1991.
I hope you enjoy listening to this conversation which takes us on a journey through Janey’s professional and personal life, which is both fascinating and inspiring, showing us that we can find our purpose and ways to support others through our own life experiences and learnings.
Here’s what is included in this episode:
- How Janey knew that she was ambitious and driven even as a child, and how this led her to a pop music and radio DJ career (with her “cheekiness” getting Janey her first break in radio!)
- When everything changed for Janey during her first pregnancy, taking her on a steep learning curve with a new focus on her work which was way ahead of her time.
- The ‘elephant in the room’ that was alcohol and the moment that she knew that she would stop drinking forever.
- How people are now choosing to leave alcohol behind without needing to hit rock bottom first, and the spectrum of drinkers that may want to stop but aren’t finding the support to do it.
- The unexpected enquiry that led her to create Sober Coach training which has become an exciting part of her life.
